When should I contact the union?

“Should I call the union?”
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT YOUR STAFF PRESIDENT OR THE D24 OFFICE WITH ANY CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS.
It’s our job to help, especially when you don’t know what to do.
You are especially encouraged to contact us in these situations:
With questions related to your workload, your working conditions, or other collective agreement-related areas
If you are being asked to do something that you believe violates the collective agreement
If you are called into a meeting with an administrator about something that feels concerning, or you are concerned it might lead to discipline
If you are called into a meeting with an administrator and they advise you to have OSSTF representation present
If you are sent home for any reason
If you hurt yourself at work or become ill as a result of work
If you think you might be experiencing workplace harassment or violence
With any health and safety concerns
If you are contacted by Family & Child Services or the police about a work-related situation
If you have learned you will receive an “Unsatisfactory” TPA assessment
With questions about your benefits
With questions about absences (sick days or other)
With questions about leaves (short or long term, paid or unpaid)
If you are unable to work for medical reasons for an extended period of time
If you have a concern with a colleague (see Adverse Reports)
If you are not sure if your concern is a “union thing” or not, email or call us. If we don’t have the answer, we’ll find out who does.
Remember: we’re in this together. Please reach out if you need to.
