ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The T/OTBU Annual General Meeting is held once a year, usually in May. ALL members are invited and encouraged to come and participate in setting direction for the next school year.
There are three key elements to the AGM:
(1) Annual Reports
Each Executive Officer and Standing Committee Chair will give a report of important happenings and milestones from their areas of responsibility. This includes a financial year-to-date report from the Treasurer, updates on bargaining from the Chief Negotiator/Grievance Officer, and other significant information.
(2) Constitutional Amendments
Members will move, debate, and vote on proposed amendments to the T/OTBU Constitution.
The Constitution is the foundational document that outlines how the bargaining unit functions. Amendments to the Constitution can have profound implications for the future of the bargaining unit, and so they must be vetted and approved by the general membership. Amendments may be proposed by any member(s), but written notice MUST be submitted to Teacher Executive no later than 20 days before the date of the AGM. They will be then posted to the membership by the President 10 days before the AGM for review.
To learn more about how to propose an amendment or to learn how to join the Constitution Committee, contact our Constitution Officer Stephen Furmaniuk at d24tbuengagement@gmail.com.
(3) Election Speeches
Candidates who are running for elected Executive Office in the T/OTBU (President, Chief Negotiator/Grievance Officer, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) will have the opportunity to present speeches to the membership at the AGM. These speeches will also be recorded and posted online following the meeting. Elections for Executive Officer positions will take place one week after the AGM at each branch.
The AGM is a chance for all members to participate in the governance of the T/OTBU, as well as socialize and make connections with other members and Executive Officers.
It should be noted: the Constitution states that a General Meeting of the T/OTBU may be called at any time by the President, Teacher Executive, at the written request of not less than 10% of the bargaining unit membership, or for ratification of a new Collective Agreement.
