COMMITTEES & COUNCILS

There are many opportunities to join committees in the T/OTBU that focus on a number of key areas, including union governance, member engagement, professional development, and more. Membership on most committees is available to any T/OTBU member, so contact Member Engagement Officer Stephen Furmaniuk at d24tbuengagement@gmail.com or your Staff President to learn more!

TEACHERS’ COUNCIL

The legislative body of the T/OTBU, TC consists of two voting representatives from each branch (Staff President and Staff Representative), along with two voting OT representatives and members of the Teachers’ Executive. This is our parliament, where motions are passed that affect the direction and policies of the bargaining unit. Meetings are usually held on the last Monday of every month. All members are welcome to attend as observers.

STANDING COMMITTEES:

These committees are constitutionally mandated to meet regularly during the school year. The elected Chair of each committee will also sit on Teachers’ Executive:

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING COMMITTEE

CBC consists of two voting representatives from each branch, with the possible attendance of an alternate. This committee is responsible for consultation and direction regarding issues directly related to bargaining and the collective agreement, including staffing and workload provisions. Members of the Negotiation Table Team, Negotiation Prep Team, and Bargaining Unit Administration Committee are all appointed from the membership of CBC. Meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of every month.

OCCASIONAL TEACHERS’ COMMITTEE

The OT Committee is composed of no less than seven members, five of whom must be members of the WRDSB Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster. It makes recommendations with respect to policies, direction, and concerns that affect the employment of occasional teachers.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The PD Committee is responsible for the management and organization of the annual Federation PD Day, Short Term Educational Leave funding, and other PD opportunities for T/OTBU members. Each branch is allotted one voting member.

COMMUNICATION & POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for coordinating and organizing communication, political action, and member engagement within the bargaining unit. It is composed of one voting member from each branch.

CONSTITUTION COMMITTEE

  • Reviews and proposes changes to the T/OTBU Constitution and By-Laws for the Annual General Meeting

FINANCE COMMITTEE

  • Reviews and discusses the financial matters of the bargaining unit

GOVERNANCE REVIEW COMMITTEE

  • Reviews and recommends changes to the governance structures of the bargaining unit

TEACHERS’ EXECUTIVE

This is the body responsible for conducting the affairs, operations, and business of the bargaining unit between annual meetings, acting as a kind of Cabinet. It is composed of the T/OTBU Executive Officers (time release and non-time release), all standing committee Chairs, and two representatives each from Teachers’ Council and the Collective Bargaining Committee.
