BARGAINING UNIT AWARDS

  • Awarded to a District 24 (Waterloo) OSSTF Teachers and Occasional Teachers’ Bargaining Unit Member who demonstrates excellence in at least three (3) of the following:

    • Teaching

    • Communications

    • Leadership

    • Member support and representation

    • Promoting solidarity

    Requirements

    • Nomination must be submitted by one or more members of District 24 OSSTF T/OTBU

      • More than one nomination can be received from any school or worksite

    • A nomination must include rationale

      • A point form summary of suitability for the nomination

    • A nomination must be accepted by the nominee

    • Supporting evidence 

      • Up to three (3) statements of support that:

        • Illustrate selection criteria

        • Include specific examples

        • Are written by students, staff, administration or others

      • Must be received before the deadline

    Winner Receives

    • Recognition at the Bargaining Unit’s Annual Retirement and Awards Dinner

    • Permanent record of award at District 24 Office on etched plaque plate

    • A commemorative plaque

    About Alan Murray

    As a District 24 President and President of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation, Al Murray demonstrated many outstanding qualities that served educators at the local and provincial OSSTF levels. This award recognizes many of Alan’s qualities, who demonstrated excellence in teaching and a concern for the needs of all students. Alan Murray also demonstrated outstanding communication, public speaking, and public relations skills, and was a model for federation leadership.

  • Awarded to a a District 24 (Waterloo) OSSTF Teachers Occasional Teachers’ Bargaining Unit Member who demonstrates excellence in at least three (3) of the following:

    • Teaching

    • Collective Agreement knowledge

    • Member advocacy

    • Defence of the Collective Agreement

    • Community involvement

    About David Brohman

    As a long time teacher, David recognized the need to assist other teachers in the profession. He entered into Federation life with this in mind. As a family man, David was always available to the people who mattered most to him. His innate compassion and caring for others led him to many acts of kindness through community organizations and on an individual basis. David’s passion for Public Education was evident daily, and drove his desire to better the system for students and teachers alike.

  • Awarded to a District 24 (Waterloo) Occasional Teachers’ Bargaining Unit Member who demonstrates excellence in at least three (3) of the following:

    • Adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of different schools and/or classes

    • Engage and build rapport with students, both in and out of the classroom

    • Interact with members of the school community in a positive fashion

    • Communicate effectively with various educational stakeholders

    • Follow and fulfill the assigned duties of the occasional teaching position(s)

    • Take initiative and exhibit professional growth as a Teacher/Occasional Teacher

    Requirements

      • More than one nomination can be received from any school or worksite

    • A nomination must include rationale

      • A point form summary of suitability for the nomination

    • A nomination must be accepted by the nominee

    • A cheque for $500 from Educators’ Financial

  • Awarded to a District 24 (Waterloo) OSSTF Teachers and Occasional Teachers’ Bargaining Unit Member who demonstrates excellence in at least three (3) of the following:

    • The promotion of a workplace safety culture, and constructive communication between workers, and between workers and supervisors

    • The promotion of operational best practices throughout the workplace

    • Participation in the WRDSB Joint Health and Safety Committee and/or their site’s Workplace Inspection Team

    • Organize and/or seek health and safety training and support for others including mentoring around workplace hazard reduction

    • Proactively seek or suggest functional preventative measures before or when workplace hazards present

    Requirements
